Gabapentin is a medicine which is used to treat Seizures and Nerve pain also termed as neurotic pain. The work of Gabapentin is to modulate the release of neurotransmitters and stabilise electrical activity in the nervous system. It is prescribed by the Doctors for the conditions like fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain and postherpetic neuralgia. It is also used for anxiety disorders and restless leg syndrome.
It should be used under doctor’s guidance and individuals with allergy to the drug should not consume it.
How to Take Gabapentin
Gabapentin is taken orally, with or without food and the dosage is based on the specific condition being treated.
Below are the guidelines of taking the medicine
- Start with a low dose, divided into 2-3 dosage a day
- Gradually Increase the dose
- It should be taken at the same time each day, usually in the morning or evening
- Duration of treatment depends on the condition being treated and is used for weeks or months
- If you miss a dose do not take the first dose if its the time for your second dose
- It should always be taken as prescribed
Gabapentin Side Effects

- Dizziness, Drowsiness, and Fatigue
- Gastrointestinal issues such as nausea and vomiting
- It can also give hallucinations
- Sometimes patient can have mild fever
- It can also cause tremors, Insomnia and Anxiety which is a rare symptom
